Brachioplasty: Reshaping Sagging Upper Arms at Adnova Clinic
Many people are self-conscious of their arms, and in particular the shape and amount of skin towards the upper part of the arms. Sagging upper arms, sometimes referred to as “bat wings,” or “bingo wings” can result from significant weight loss, ageing, or other patient-specific factors. Excess skin and fat in this area can make individuals feel uncomfortable wearing sleeveless clothing or participating in activities they enjoy. At Adnova Clinic, the premier specialist day surgery centre on the UK South Coast, brachioplasty (arm lift surgery) provides a surgical solution to enhance the appearance of the upper arms by addressing sagging and loose skin.
Adnova Clinic utilises state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Our medical staff and surgeons are highly trained to provide patients with the best possible standard of care. The clinic was founded by experienced plastic surgeons Charles Durrant and Simon Heppell, who between them have over forty years of experience. Both are full members of BAPRAS and BAAPS, are on the GMC Specialist Register, and hold the FRCS(Plast) qualification. All procedures take place in our modern, CQC-registered facility at Eagle Point, Little Park Farm Road, Fareham (near Southampton), designed specifically for adult day-case surgical patients. You can learn more about our team on the Who We Are page.
What is Brachioplasty?
Brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms. Under general anaesthetic, an incision is made (typically along the inner side of the upper arm) to grant access to the skin and fat below. Once any excess has been removed, the remaining skin is pulled taut and sutured to create a firmer aesthetic look. During the surgery, the underlying tissues of the arms are also tightened to enhance the desired contour. This is achieved by using sutures to reshape and redistribute the remaining tissue, resulting in a more natural and proportional arm appearance.
For some patients a minimal scar approach is possible through the use of VASERlipo and RENUVION. Your surgeon will discuss this option with you if appropriate. Loose and sagging skin around the upper arms can be a source of unhappiness for many. This is a common condition that is often caused by ageing, weight loss, or patient-specific factors that might result in excess arm skin. Regardless of the cause, excessive skin on the arms can cause chafing and discomfort when moving. Our expert surgeons can provide lasting relief through a brachioplasty.
This procedure helps patients feel more confident in their bodies and clothing choices. You can learn more about our full range of cosmetic surgery options on the Adnova Clinic homepage.
Who is a Good Candidate for Brachioplasty at Adnova Clinic?
You may be a suitable candidate for brachioplasty at Adnova Clinic if you have significant sagging or excess skin on the upper arms. During your consultation at our clinic near Southampton, one of our expert surgeons will assess your individual needs, discuss your goals in detail, explain the realistic outcomes, and determine the best surgical approach for you. We take time to address any concerns you may have about the procedure, recovery, or scarring, ensuring you feel fully informed and confident before making a decision. This thorough consultation process is central to the patient-centred approach at Adnova Clinic.
The Brachioplasty Procedure at Adnova Clinic
Brachioplasty is performed as a day-case procedure under general anaesthetic. The surgery usually takes 1.5 hours. There are no drains and no suture removal. Return to work is typically 1–2 weeks and return to exercise is 6 weeks.
The surgeon makes an incision typically along the inner side of the upper arm (between the biceps and triceps). Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened and smoothed. Underlying tissues are also tightened with sutures to create a more defined contour. In suitable cases, a minimal-scar approach using VASERlipo and RENUVION may be discussed.
Our highly trained surgical team uses advanced techniques to minimise scarring where possible and optimise aesthetic outcomes. All procedures are carried out in our modern, CQC-registered facility with a strong emphasis on patient safety, comfort, and infection control. You can view our transparent fees and pricing for full details, including what is included in your care package, on the Body Treatment Pricelist. The current guide price for Brachioplasty is £6,900 (includes 2 garments and 1 microneedling scar treatment). Prices listed are guide prices and may vary according to individual requirements or surgeon. Finance options are available.
Recovery and Aftercare at Adnova Clinic
At Adnova Clinic, we provide complete aftercare for all our surgical procedures to improve the quality of patient experience and help make sure the surgery achieves the best results possible. For brachioplasty, compressing bandages are used from the armpits down to the wrists or a compression garment. This is essential to reduce swelling, reduce the risk of injury, and support the incisions.
Recovery times vary between patients, but most people can return to light activities and work within 1–2 weeks. Return to exercise is typically advised at 6 weeks. Our dedicated team provides comprehensive aftercare support, including detailed guidance on wound care, wearing compression garments (bandages), activity restrictions, pain management, scar management techniques, and follow-up appointments. We remain available to answer questions throughout your recovery journey, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way. Patients are encouraged to attend all scheduled reviews so our surgeons can monitor healing and address any concerns promptly.
Further information on aftercare is available on the brachioplasty procedure page.
Benefits of Brachioplasty at Adnova Clinic
Patients often experience a firmer, more toned upper arm appearance and improved confidence when wearing sleeveless or fitted clothing. The procedure removes excess skin that can cause irritation, chafing, or discomfort during everyday movements. It creates a better-proportioned body contour. Results are long-lasting when combined with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle choices.
Many patients also combine brachioplasty with other procedures such as abdominoplasty or breast surgery for more comprehensive body contouring after weight loss. At Adnova Clinic we offer a wide range of body procedures; you can explore these on our homepage and individual procedure pages.
